The opening of Harlington School Training Kitchen

Brian Turner CBE opened a new professional training kitchen at Harlington Community School on Wednesday 13th May. This high quality facility sponsored by the Savoy Educational Trust is an important element in Harlington's continuing commitment to vocational education.

Guests included the Deputy Mayor Cllr Shirley Harper O'Neill, Cllr Brian Stead, Mr John McDonnell MP, Ms Margaret Georgiou of The Savoy Educational Trust, Mrs Carol Greenham and Mr Michael Coaker of Thames Valley University and representatives from the Ealing & Hillingdon Education Business Partnership, School Improvement Services, Governors, Senior Staff and Design & Technology staff.

Brian Turner CBE talked of the great opportunities available for young people interested in the hospitality industry and congratulated the school on their first class training facility. He encouraged the students to gain hands on experience and praised the growing number of commercial hotels and restaurants that mentored young students in this area. He stressed the importance of good training and getting the basics right.

Outlining his own career, he explained how it had taken him all around the world, admitting he was fortunate to earn his living doing something he so much enjoyed.
